My name is Ernest Jose. I was born in Manila, Philippines, but I moved to Connecticut, then to Texas. I live with my parents and 2 siblings. As an artist, it was bound to get interested into animation eventually. I started to get into animation when I first watched Tim Burton’s movie Coraline.

         When I first watched the movie as a kid, I thought it was funny looking. The characters looked like they were made of quality-clay of some sort and the story was really interesting. But I also noticed how smooth the animation was, how life-like the movements are, and how unique characters were. The characters weren’t alive but the movie made them come alive. Little did I know this was the start of my hunger for animation.

         I’ve been drawing ever since I can remember and for the same reason, I wanted my art to come alive like Tim Burton made his characters come to life. Drawing was one thing but animating was another thing. Drawing the same thing over and over or with little movements to make it a lot more smooth was difficult.

So that’s where this class comes in to help, for me to learn and develop an animating style that fits me. A style where I am comfortable, decent to work with, and that will make my art come to life. I took an animation at the ending year of middle school and I took one last year, my Junior year. Now, I am here and ready to learn some more. I watch a lot of animations, mostly, 2D, and I somewhat pick up a little of the animator’s style in order to incorporate it into my own.

In the future, I plan on being able to animate as easy as I am able to draw. Drawing to me is like breathing. My plan is to make animating a hobby and as something to do whenever I’m being creative. At some points, I’ve thought about learning enough about animation to apply for big companies like Pixar or DreamWorks.

All in all, my true goal is to just enjoy this class and enjoy what others and I create.
